Business Tax Receipts (BTR)

Are you opening a business in the City of Kissimmee?

You must pay a tax to operate any business within the City of Kissimmee limits. A business tax receipt is your proof of payment and is required before a business opens.

Step 1.Confirm that your property is within City of Kissimmee limits

Although your address may say Kissimmee, you might be in unincorporated Osceola County, where BTRs are handled by Osceola County. If you are outside of city limits you may only need an Osceola County BTR.

Step 2.Fill out an application

Complete and submit your application to apply for a City of Kissimmee Business Tax Receipt.

Step 3.Staff will review your application

After applying online, staff will review the proposed request for compliance with City standards and offer any applicable comments.

Step 4.Schedule an inspection 

Once approved, install any applicable improvements, schedule an inspection with Kissimmee Fire Department by calling 407-518-2202, and obtain approval. 

Step 5.Receive your Business Tax Receipt

After payment, your Business Tax Receipt is to be printed and displayed at your business. 

Step 6.Get your Osceola County Business Tax Receipt

All businesses in the City of Kissimmee must have both a City of Kissimmee and an Osceola County BTR. Osceola County will require that proof of payment is shown, before issuing the Osceola County BTR.

Don't forget to renew your business tax receipt

All business tax receipts expire September 30. If we have an email on file, we’ll send a reminder letting you know it’s time to renew your BTR.

Make sure you renew your business tax receipt each year for as long as you remain in business. 

  • Submitting an incomplete or inaccurate BTR application. 
  • Delays in paying BTR fees.
  • Missing or invalid documents. 
  • Not asking for help when unsure of the process. 
  • Not registering or using the Self-Service Portal. 
  • Delayed responses from the applicant to requests for clarification, disapproval comments or documents. 
  • Applicant does not schedule required inspections (If applicable.)
  • Hiring a consultant - City staff will help for free. 
  • Attempting to “work the system’ or bypass required steps of the process.
