What improvements are coming to Mill Run Park?
Mill Run Park will receive upgrades as part of this project. After construction is complete, the park will include new sidewalks, updated playground equipment, new picnic tables, and a new restroom.
Will Mill Run Park close during the renovation?
Yes. The park will be closed during the renovation. It will reopen once work is complete and improvements are in place.
What is happening to the basketball courts at Mill Run Park?
While the majority of amenities at Mill Run Park, including the playground, will not be removed, the basketball courts at Mill Run Park must be removed as part of this project.
Will the City replace the basketball courts?
We understand how important basketball courts are to our community. Our Parks and Recreation team is actively exploring options to add a new full court basketball facility in the community and improve basketball and other sports amenities across our park system. We will share updates as plans are finalized.
Is Fire Station 2 an additional station or a replacement?
Fire Station 2 will replace Fire Station 12, which is currently on Denn John Lane. Fire Station 12 was built in 1980. A replacement is needed to meet modern operational and safety standards and maintain reliable emergency response for this area.
What will happen to Fire Station 12 after Fire Station 2 opens?
Once Fire Station 2 opens, the current Fire Station 12 building will be converted into an Operations Center for Parks and Recreation staff. It will not be a public park or recreation center.
Is the City adding another new fire station as well?
Yes. In addition to replacing Fire Station 12, the City is also building a new fire station in the Lakeside community. This overall effort includes both a replacement and an expansion of service.
Will this project increase my taxes?
No. This project is budgeted and fully funded. Some residents have asked about the Fire Assessment Fee that was passed in 2025. The fire assessment fee is not tied to the construction of new fire stations.
What is the fire assessment fee used for?
The fire assessment fee supports fire rescue operations citywide, including staffing the additional fourth shift that helps keep units available and maintain response times. Station construction is funded separately from the fire assessment.
