Project Description:The West Oak Street & John Young Parkway Intersection Improvement Project is designed to enhance traffic flow, safety, and infrastructure in the area.
Key improvements include:
- Roadway Expansion – West Oak Street will be widened to allow continuous through lanes while maintaining turn lanes at John Young Parkway.
- Traffic Flow Improvements – A designated right-turn-only lane will be converted into a through lane to reduce congestion and improve traffic efficiency.
- Infrastructure Enhancements – The project includes milling, resurfacing, new pavement, and upgraded drainage systems to ensure long-term durability.
- Pedestrian Safety Features – Sidewalk upgrades, curb ramps, detectable warning surfaces, and ADA-compliant improvements will enhance accessibility and safety for pedestrians.
- Traffic & Lighting Enhancements – Upgraded signalization, lighting, signage, and pavement markings will improve visibility and road safety.
- Aesthetic & Environmental Improvements – Landscaping, erosion control measures, and sustainability-focused enhancements will contribute to a more visually appealing and environmentally responsible roadway.
This project aims to create a safer and more efficient intersection for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists while enhancing the overall infrastructure of the area.
Funding Source: Local Agency Program (LAP), with over 95% of funds provided by Federal-Aid resources through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and Metro Plan Orlando.
