$10 Million Grant Secured for New Kissimmee Gateway Air Traffic Tower

The City of Kissimmee has secured a $10 million federal grant to support construction of a new air traffic control tower at Kissimmee Gateway Airport (ISM), following years of planning, coordination, and advocacy.
The project will replace the airport’s aging control tower with a modern facility designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance safety, and provide upgraded working conditions and visibility for air traffic controllers serving the region.
Funding was awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower (FCT) Program for Fiscal Year 2026 and administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation, as of May 18, 2026.
City of Kissimmee Aviation Director Shaun Germolus said the funding reflects strong collaboration at the federal and local levels. “We are very grateful for the federal partnership and support that helped make this investment possible. This is an important step forward not only for the airport, but for the future of aviation and economic development in Kissimmee,” Germolus said.
City officials also expressed appreciation to U.S. Representative Darren Soto for his support throughout the federal funding process and his assistance in securing the grant.
The new control tower is expected to include updated technology, improved operational capabilities, and a modern design that reflects the airport’s growing role in Central Florida’s aviation sector.

La Ciudad de Kissimmee ha asegurado una subvención federal de $10 millones para apoyar la construcción de una nueva torre de control de tráfico aéreo en el Kissimmee Gateway Airport (ISM), lo que representa un avance significativo tras años de planificación, coordinación y esfuerzos conjuntos.
