Bill Hansen Plaza Dedication

The City of Kissimmee held a dedication ceremony on September 23 at Kissimmee Lakefront Park to unveil a new sign at Bill Hansen Plaza, formerly Ruby Plaza, honoring the late Guillermo “Bill” Hansen. Members of the Hansen family, City officials, and community members attended.

The Kissimmee City Commission approved the renaming on September 9, 2026, following a public hearing. The request came from State Representative Jose Alvarez and was considered under the City’s Memorial Naming of Public Facilities policy, which recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the City’s well-being and betterment.

“Bill Hansen brought people together and created opportunities for people to celebrate the cultures that make Kissimmee special,” said Mayor Jackie Espinosa. “By naming this plaza in his honor, the City Commission is giving our community a lasting way to recognize his service and the difference he made in Kissimmee.”

“We are eternally grateful for this immense honor from the City of Kissimmee and State Representative Jose Alvarez for the naming of the Bill Hansen Plaza and recognizing the great impact he had on our entire community,” said Yanin Hansen, daughter of Bill Hansen. “This is very special because it fulfills one of my father’s wishes and allows his work to continue paving the way for Hispanics and making them more visible, as he always did.”
