City Honors Black History Month with Art, Music, and Community Spirit

The City of Kissimmee kicked off Black History Month with its annual reception on February 4, 2025, hosted for the first time at the beautiful Kissimmee City Hall’s Rain Garden. This exciting event brought together dozens of community members to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and impactful contributions of Black Americans in Kissimmee and beyond.
This year’s reception featured an art exhibit, live musical performances, and a selection of food and drinks that allowed attendees to immerse themselves in the celebration. The Black History Month Exhibition, presented by Osceola Arts as part of the Art in Public Places Program, will remain on display throughout February 2025.
During the reception, certificates of appreciation were presented to local artists and performers, recognizing their dedication to celebrating Black History Month and supporting the exhibition. Additionally, a Proclamation was read during the City Commission meeting at 6:00 p.m., officially declaring February 2025 as Black History Month in the City of Kissimmee and encouraging the community to join in this special observance.
The City of Kissimmee invites all community members to attend two upcoming events as part of this month-long celebration:
- African American Read-In: February 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Kissimmee Civic Center, 201 E. Dakin Avenue, Kissimmee, 34741.
- Black History Month Celebration: February 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chambers Park Community Center, 2380 Smith Street, Kissimmee, 34744.
Both events will provide meaningful opportunities to engage with and reflect on the lasting impact of Black history and culture in the community.

La Ciudad Celebra Black History Month con Arte, Música y Espíritu Comunitario
La Ciudad de Kissimmee inició el Black History Month con su recepción anual el 4 de febrero de 2025, organizada por primera vez en el hermoso Jardín de Lluvia de la Alcaldía de Kissimmee. Este evento reunió a decenas de miembros de la comunidad para celebrar la rica herencia cultural y las significativas contribuciones de los afroamericanos en Kissimmee y más allá.
La recepción de este año contó con una exposición de arte, actuaciones musicales en vivo y una selección de comida y bebidas que permitió a los asistentes disfrutar de la celebración. La Exposición del Black History Month, presentada por Osceola Arts como parte del Programa de Arte en Lugares Públicos, permanecerá expuesta durante todo el mes de febrero de 2025.
Durante la recepción, se entregaron certificados de agradecimiento a artistas e intérpretes locales, reconociendo su dedicación a la celebración del Black History Month y su apoyo a la exposición.
