Get an Inside Look at How Your Police Department Works

The Kissimmee Police Department Citizens Academy is a free, nine-week program designed to give community members an up-close and personal look at the inner workings of KPD. From patrol procedures to investigative techniques and community outreach, this hands-on program is your chance to learn how our officers serve and protect our community every day.

Why Participate?

Whether you're simply curious about law enforcement, want to get involved in your community, or are considering a future in public service, the Citizens Academy is for you. This program builds trust and understanding between officers and residents through transparency, education, and open dialogue.

Participants will:

  • Meet and interact with officers and department leadership
  • Learn about KPD operations, policies, and procedures
  • Take part in live demonstrations and hands-on activities
  • Tour police facilities and specialized units
  • Explore opportunities to stay involved after graduation

Who Can Join?

The Citizens Academy is open to individuals who are:

  • 18 Years or older
  • Live in the City of Kissimmee or own a business in the City of Kissimmee
  • Must pass a background check

Class Schedule

Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8:30 PM, starting September 3 through October 29, 2025.
Each session will take place at the Kissimmee Police Department. The program concludes with a special Graduation Ceremony where participants may invite a guest to celebrate their accomplishment.

What to Expect

This is an interactive experience! Dress comfortably and wear shoes suitable for walking or light activity. Name tags will be provided and must be worn at each session.

To receive a graduation certificate, participants must attend at least 7 of the 9 sessions.

Please note: Due to limited space, we ask that only registered participants attend weekly sessions. Each participant is welcome to invite one adult and two children as their guests at the Graduation Ceremony.

What Comes After?

Graduates of the Citizens Academy may want to:

  • Join KPD advisory boards or volunteer programs
  • Engage in civic events and community initiatives
  • Consider careers in public safety or local government
  • Become ambassadors for safety and trust in their neighborhoods
